Cut the Crap–Lose the Fat!

In FIT on October 18, 2010 at 4:06 pm

If I were to come ring your doorbell and walk into your house right now–what would I find? Would your tables be stacked with papers, your drawers struggling to close and your sink overflowing with dishes? Or, would I walk into a total sanctuary, where every item has a home? Hopefully, for your sake, it would be the latter.

Having an organized home is very important, whether you live alone, with a significant other or with a large family. Many people confuse an organized home with a clean home but there is a huge difference between the two. While a clean home is important to keep you healthy for obvious physical reasons, an organized home is actually the real key in maintaining your health.

Going to the gym and eating well are great ways to stay fit and healthy but if you’re having trouble shedding those last few pounds, or feeling like your work in the gym just isn’t paying off, take a look around your house. There is a direct link between an organized home and weight loss. People who live in a cluttered space have higher stress levels. Those higher stress levels lead to more Cortisol in your body. The increase in Cortisol is what causes your insulin to rise, encouraging you to eat more, unhealthy foods.

What’s the fix? Start purging! Organizing your home is honestly much easier than it seems. Whenever you have a few spare minutes, tackle one small thing. You can organize a drawer, fold your clothes, or just go around collecting your clutter into a big box. Then, when you have more time, sit down and sort through everything. This will not only give you a huge sense of accomplishment, but also leave you feeling more relaxed.

Cut the crap and lose the fat–get organized today! For tips on how to organize your home you can check out one of my favorite blogs here or go to RealSimple.com for inspiration and advice.
